Wedding bells were ringing, my camera was clicking

Today, Sarah and I had our second wedding gig. Yes. We photograph weddings and we get paid for it. It is a sweet deal. It is also a ton of fun. This wedding was in Cambria and was at 11AM. However, we needed to be there at 8am. That meant leaving Riverdale/Lemoore at 5:30AM.

Blegh.

BUT, it wasn’t so bad. The ride up was rather quiet, for neither of us were completely awake. We finally arrived, and then immediately began clicking away. Sarah went with the bride while she got dressed (I’ll introduce you to the couple in just a second) and while Sarah was with the bride I was walking around, taking some detail photos of the place, decor, etc.  The weather in the morning was beautiful in Cambria, however it didn’t last long. This particular day it got up to 100-something degrees. But, again, it wasn’t so bad. The wedding was beautiful, the people were great, and it was a great atmosphere filled with love and happiness.

IMG_6734Now, allow me to introduce you to Jake and Adriana. I hadn’t met these guys until today, but they were a fun couple. We were all laughing the whole time and it was just really enjoyable taking pictures of them. :) Ha, they even put up with my quirks and silliness that comes through. I just really had a good time at this wedding (except for the getting sunburnt part, but it is already turning into a tan, so it’s not too bad).

But during the reception, I kind of had a moment. After Jake and Adriana’s first dance, they invited their parents and a few other couples on stage for a dance. It was then that I saw the beauty of life and the progression of life. We had a couple that just got married, then there was another young couple holding a baby, and then the two sets of parents dancing and smiling as they just saw their own children just got married. It was just kind of neat to see the generations right there in front of me. It really reminded me my life is constantly moving forward, and someday that will be me getting married, and then eventually having my own children,  and then eventually dancing at my child’s wedding. Was just a real eye opener. *nods* yeah. :)

And thenn, yeah here are just a few more photos. These next few don’t really need editing and kind of give you a feel for the atmosphere of the wedding. They’re not amazing or anything, but like I said, they give you a feel. I want to wait until I let the new bride and groom see their pictures before I show the rest of the world. ;)

Would You Rather Wednesday!

I am not sure what number we’re on. I noticed last week that my numbering was wrong. And I’ve yet to fix it. I will.

However, today’s question states:

Would you rather be so famous and adored that you are always bothered by fans OR be famous but hated that no one talks or approaches you?

Gahh. This is tough indeed. I thrive on being loved and adored. But to be so famous so that everybody and their mom knows me? Well, to be completely honest, that is one of my goals in life. I want to be known. But I want to be known in a good way, known for making a positive difference somewhere, somehow. But, to be always bothered by fans? Blegh. It would get tiresome.

I really do have sympathy for celebrities today. Paparazzi and reporters are always hounding them. Just let these people live their lives. That’s just my stand point, though.

I would not want to be hated, either. Although if I were, and nobody would approach me, it gives me leeway to do whatever I may please. I can act out however I like. Say whatever I want. It is almost liberating. But it is equally lonely.

Of these choices, I would have to say that I would rather be so famous and adored by others that I was always bothered by fans. And alas, now I am eager to hear what you have to say on this one. I really do enjoy reading the different viewpoints that come from everybody. Happy Wednesday!

I’m a zombie.

Dude. Lately, since school has started since orientation, I have been exhausted like no other. I’ve been tired, and haven’t been able to recover. At all! I’ve been getting a minimum of seven hours of sleep, but I don’t know. I’ve never experienced anything like this, either. I fee like I just can’t get ahead. I am really hoping it gets better as the week moves on.

I was busy with orientation stuff Thursday through Saturday — and then the movie on Sunday evening. Monday I worked from 8-11, had class, and worked again from 12:30-5. Today was work from 8-11, class, meeting, class. I finished at 3pm today, and had zero energy. I tried socializing with people, because I haven’t really had a chance to sit down and talk with some of my friends since school has started. I ended up coming back to my place and napping. Then I had rehearsal tonight.

seniorday1I don’t know if my exhaustion is enhanced by my lack of socialization with others or not. I am both mentally exhausted and have no physical energy. I am excited that I do get to sleep in tomorrow a bit, though. If I am still feeling the same way by the end of tomorrow, though, I’m really going to be worried. :/

So far, though, school is going well. I am thinking I am going to enjoy my senior year. I’ve had a lot on my mind lately. I’m still juggling if I want to put those thoughts on here, or in a private entry — no offense. But! here is a picture of me on my first day of my senior year. Ha, mama asked for one so I sent one to her. Then Mama G took another when I stopped by to visit her. That one is on her facebook.

Alas. My life is kinda uneventful right now. I just want rest. I’m shooting my second wedding this weekend with Sarah. Should be good. I’m a little nervous. I’m sure we’ll do fine, though. Tomorrow is Would You Rather Wednesday. Be sure to check in.

Until then, good night!

Would You Rather #5

It’s that time of the week again! I’m not going to waste any time. Today’s question asks:

Would you rather have your skin change into vibrant colors according to your emotional state (e.g. red for anger, blue for sadness) or wildly and uncontrollably flail your arms around whenever you walk?

On thissss one, I think I’m going to choose the vibrant colors. Mostly just because it sounds cool. Emotions would be very apparent, but how cool is it that your skin changes color? Haha. Now I’m wondering if it would have any effect on my tattoos. I don’t think so, they would probably just become more/less vibrant depending on what color my skin would be.

I didn’t choose the second option – mostly because it was uncontrollable. I can just imagine walking around with my arms going crazy. Shoot – I’ve hit a kid in the head swinging my keys around when I did have control. I’m just imagining how much damage I’d do with my arms and no control! It’s kind of funny actually, but yeah. :-P

So, how about you? Be like the horse of many colors on the Wizard of Oz? Or be crazy-flaily arms person?

haha, this question was ridiculous…

Hello, My Name is Steven

Dear Blog,

I believe we once knew each other. Quite well. Do allow me to re-introduce myself. My name is Steven. I am the one who used to write in you frequently. While I was in Nashville, I was able to give you all the attention and time in the world. Now, however, that I am back in California … it isn’t that I have forgotten about you, it is just that now I have other things filling up my time. Please forgive me, blog. You’ve been simply set aside temporarily until I return to a schedule. Now I know that my college schedule will be insane, but it will be easier to find times to write regularly.

These past few days, I have moved back home. Then I’ve had numerous social engagements. Then I moved back to Fresno. Then I was gone for the weekend on Leadership Retreat. And yeah. Life has been a lot busier these past days than my beautiful summer was.

This was truly a summer that I will never forget. My blog – we shared something special and enjoyed Nashville together. Now, allow me to introduce you to Fresno life. Life at FPU, life in the community, life in general. Summer is coming to an end, and a new chapter in life is opening up.

In this new chapter of life, I am extremely clueless as to what will happen, where I’ll end up, or who will come in/out of my life. That is the beauty of it. I’m going to take it day by day. I look forward to a lot of new and positive changes in my life, all mostly involving where I will be after my college career is finished.

Now after a summer of solitude, it is great to once again be surrounded by those I love and to be loved by those who love me. My welcome back was extremely warm and full of love. I am thankful for my friends and family that I do have here at home. But now, back to school. Back to work. Back to life.

Ha, and back in Fresno, I’m drinking iced beverages at the office instead of the hot ones I was drinking back in Music City. So as I finish my iced green tea lemonade, cheers! It’s good to be back. :)

Love,

Me.

Would You Rather Wednesday #4

Welp. I am back home in California. This summer has flown by. I was out of it for my first day or so back. I kinda felt like I was a part of the Chronicles of Narnia. I felt like I had left and was in Nashville for a really long time, but when I came back home, it felt like I had returned to the same time. As if nothing had happened. It was really quite trippy.

Alas, though, it is good to be back. It was really nice to see my parents and family and everybody again. Well, I haven’t seen everybody, but almost everybody. At the airport, as I was making my way down to baggage claim, there were my parents standing — my mom taking pictures of me as I came down the escalator. We waited for a while to get my luggage, and made our way back to Riverdale. We got home close to 2am. I am adjusting back to California time a lot easier and quicker than I thought I would. Except yesterday. I felt kinda gross all day, and the lag hit me. But I’d like to say that now I’m good to go.

Monday I visited campus – to take care of financial aid and stuff, and as I saw a few people I actually got overwhelmed and almost couldn’t handle it. It was really weird! I guess I had got used to it being just Dave and I wherever we went, and then to be at FPU and so many people were coming up to me and saying hi and asking how my summer was, and all the phone calls – it was insane! I mean I am really thankful to be so loved, but it was just overwhelming for me. I think I’m good now – all though even today my people intake was in small doses. The real test will be on Friday when we gather for Leadership Retreat.

I have missed being away from home, but equally miss being in Nashville. Going away this summer was a real treat for me. I am extremely thankful to have been blessed with that opportunity.

Now, for our would you rather question:

Would you rather try to elude an angry bull for 5 minutes, inside a 100×100 ft. enclosure, by running and dodging or try to elude the bull just once by standing there and making a sweep with a red cape like a true matador?

This one is fun. I’ve actually had experience with this one! I was raised into the Portuguese culture, and being in that culture you get exposed to tons and tons of amazing food, and just an awesome culture with fun and interesting traditions. One of these are Portuguese Bloodless Bullfights. I’ve been going to these since I’ve been young.

At these bullfights, we were invited as kids to run in the pen with a large bull calf (this is the equivalent of a grown man and a grown bull). :D But it was so much fun running around in the pen dodging the bull and seeing how close you can get to it. It was always a competition amongst friends to see who can get the closest to the bull. Almost like in Finding Nemo, “I touched the butt!”

Now, I’ve also had the opportunity to see an awesomely talented matador swing his red cape in front of the bull. That guy was insanely good. He knew how to put on a good show. I don’t know if it takes mad talent or courage or a mixture of the both to be as good as he was, but he was good.

I’m going to have to go with running and dodging the angry bull. I had so much fun doing that as a child. I imagine it wold have the same sense of fun dealing with a full grown bull, but I don’t care. I’m going to pretend it was in the old days when I was young and it was only a calf. :)

How about you? What would you do? The button’s down there, and hopefully you know the routine by now.

Ya’ll Come Back Now, Ya Hear?

Tomorrow, I fly out of this city I’ve called home for the past 9 weeks. The city? Nashville, TN.

We left California on June 7, 2009 and drove four days across the country to finally arrive here. Our first week was spent in a hotel. That is all we thought we would need, for we were sure that we would have a place settled in a week.We were wrong. We ended up living out of a hotel for our first two weeks in Music City.

Those first two weeks were quite adventurous. Actually, the first three weeks (including the approximate week we spent driving over here) were crazy. On the drive over we almost died (so I’m exaggerating a bit..) in a freak storm we got caught in while driving through Oklahoma (not exaggerating about the storm – it was insane). It was our first Midwest storm. The lightning was so beautifully dangerous, winds incredibly strong, and rain pelting down. Dave swears our car got lifted off the road for just a second. When we finally pulled off the road, lightning hit the ground just twenty or so feet away from where we parked. This storm was insane!

The same storm followed us into Nashville. Our first weekend here, we made it to the CMA Music Festival. There we got to see pretty much all the current chart-topping artists in one weekend. The first night of concerts, that storm decided to make an appearance and put the concert on pause for two hours until it passed over.

Also in those first weeks we had been spending our days online – looking through craigslist and numerous apartment sites. We were looking for a place to live. We even signed up on roommates.com (which, by the way, I would not recommend – to get anywhere on that site you have to pay for their services).

But, finally, after the first two weeks, we found the house we have been living in on craigslist. Once we moved into the house, the craigslist hunt continued to find some furniture for Dave. We found him a really nice bed and rocker/swivel chair off the site. We were then settled in the house. The next step of our journey: job hunts.

Pretty much, I had no luck at all on the job market – and gave up fairly quickly because I was only here for a month and a half. Too, I realized that this was time I really needed, especially after last year. This summer has been a good time of rest and spiritual/inner growth. I’ve come to appreciate this time of nothingness quite much. Dave had his internship that he was working for. He had that, but has also been looking for another job. To this day, he has still been unsuccessful. The market stinks right now, and employers out here are really bad about getting back to you regarding job applications. However, in this last week or so, he’s had a few leads come up. I really hope something works out for him.

Out here, we got into a routine. The days Dave worked, I would come into town with him and spend my days at the Starbucks just 3 or 4 blocks down from his work. This Starbucks (which I’m at right now) has come to be known as my office. The days that Dave didn’t work, we slept in and would either spend the day just kinda vegging out at the house, or we would take a trip into the city and explore.

On some of these exploring ventures, we have been able to see some pretty cool stuff. We went and saw the Jack Daniels Distillery, the Grand Ole Opry, Opry Mills Mall, Nashville’s downtown (which is full of a ton of cool shops and bars), the outskirts of the city – which are full of beautiful mansions sitting on rolling green hills, The Hermitage (President Andrew Jackson’s house), the Bluebird Cafe, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Nashville’s exact replica of the Parthenon, Mellow Mushroom, San Antonio Taco Company, Toyama’s Japanese Steak House,  and my favorite: CRACKER BARREL! :D

Thinking back, my whole time out here has been blessed. I have spent the summer with a truly great friend – and I’m thankful for that. Today, Dave actually joined me at the office.  He didn’t have to work today. I had planned on him working, so when I found out he didn’t have work I asked if we could still come in. I’m a sentimental guy,  I wanted one last visit in the office. *shrug*  I had asked him to remind me of some of the things we’ve done and saw – and he just kept listing them off. There is so much to write about. Our 4th of July experience, fireflies, How I Met Your Mother, Corrie’s visit, the horrible drivers, and this last note,  – it’s for Dave.

Today on our way to the office, we saw a lady and her daughter get out of a stranded car. We were pulling out of a parking lot because we were returning a RedBox movie. We saw them and decided to help. We parked, and made our way to the lady. She was about 30ish, drove a Mercedes, was wearing heels, and carrying a Louis Vuitton purse. She was Hispanic – and then her daughter was typical cute little 5ish year old girl. We asked her if she would like us to help her. She left her car stranded in the middle of the road. So we did, we pushed her car into the parking lot – away from oncoming traffic. We helped her out.

When we were pulling into the Starbucks parking lot, we were welcomed by this jolly homeless man. He had the biggest smile on his face and waved us into the parking lot. He brought a smile to both of our faces.

According to Dave, we did a good deed for a lady, and a nice gesture was returned to us.

At first, I thought that Dave was silly, and didn’t think much about his statement. But now, after actually writing it out and thinking on it – maybe it was coincidence, maybe it wasn’t. Whatever it was, it reminded me that we need to take note of the small things in life. Just that smile and welcome we received from the homeless man made my day.

Nashville – you’ve been great. Will I ever come back? Who knows. It’s been real. It’s been fun. It’s been real fun.

Time is running out…

Welp, this is my last full day in Nashville. Dave works tomorrow, so we can’t really do too much. I fly out of here on Saturday evening. One last thing I’m going to do for sure on Saturday is have breakfast at Cracker Barrel. I’ve yet to experience their breakfasts, and so I’m going to go out on that note. Then the rest of Saturday I will probably be consoling Dave. I’m expecting he’ll be a mess that day. A big, blubbery, crying mess (because I’m leaving). Haha, just kidding.

But agenda for today? I don’t know. All I do know is that I do not want to spend it in the house. Granted it is a nice house and all – but I want to spend the day in the city.

I haven’t started to pack yet.. I’ll probably do that tomorrow, or Saturday. Ha. I always wait until the very last minute when it comes to packing. So I will go so far as to say that this *may* be my last post for a few days. Scratch that. I’ll be at the office tomorrow. I’ll write there. But don’t know if I will write Saturday.
I’m just throwing that out there. It really is going to be sad leaving this place. But I’ll leave the mushy reflection stuff for tomorrow :)
Happy Thursday, friends!

Would You Rather Wednesday #3

So, before I realized that today was WYRW, my mind was all over the place. I didn’t write yesterday. I completely forgot, to be honest. Then today, I was at a loss for words. I didn’t know what to write about. It was especially odd – because I had so much on my mind, yet no words were coming through to type out. Then, I remembered about today – which gave me some guidance! Today’s question…

Would You Rather be the limousine driver for a movie star or the bus driver for a rock band?

Ha! This one is a fun one! My initial response is leaning toward bus driver for a rock band. Mostly because that is likely to be a lot more fun and more entertaining. However, with the added entertainment, it is probably likely to have a higher danger risk.

However, with the movie star – I would think that I would be able to have a better relationship with the one person instead of a whole band. From this point, I guess that it would depend on who the band/star is. Also, in comparing the two different vehicles – bus vs. limo – I’m guessing they would both have their own difficulties in maneuvering.

Now I am getting too technical. I’m scratching the bus driver. I would rather be a limo driver for a movie star. Limos are more classy. The ruckus of a band would be fun at first, but I imagine I would get tired of it. So, there we have it. I would rather be a limo driver for a movie star.

Now it is your turn! If you’re new to my blog, welcome! But, to all, feel free to leave a comment and create some discussion below to let me and others know what you would rather do. :)

100 Facts About Me

This morning, I was going to write on here, but before I began to do that, I found myself on Facebook. There, I found myself filling out one of those questionaires. I started it an hour ago and am now finished. So, today will be a ‘Get to know Steven’ day. I spent a lot of time answering those questions and I am going to repost the questions and my answers here. Happy Monday, and here are one hundred questions and answers about me!

1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT?
My biggest scar is on my arm. I got it when I was only 8 months old. I was in my walker, hangin out in my mom’s beauty shop. I made my way to her work station and pulled the cord of the curling iron. Needless to say, it fell on my arm and left me with a 2nd degree burn that left a scar I’ve had my entire life.

2. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM?
Currently my room in Nashville, the walls are plain. I did have some of my photography up, but the frames kept falling (I was using putty, I didn’t wanna put holes in the wall).
